Governor Awiti Disburses Kshs 100m to Needy Students

Some 22,110 needy students will benefit from a County Education Bursary fund to pursue secondary, tertiary and college education. Homa Bay County Governor H.E Cyprian Awiti today disbursed a Sh100 million kitty to vulnerable and bright beneficiaries from all the county’s 40 wards.

The bursary will support 768 students from Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), another 3,113 Vocational Training beneficiaries, 2,440 Early Years Education Trainees and 592 Special Needs Education beneficiaries.

“Today we officially disburse this kitty at a critical time when corona virus pandemic has seriously affected the livelihoods of our people, therefore we release this amount to support the education of vulnerable students in this county. Ever since the kitty was established in 2018, we have disbursed a total of Sh390 million to support the needy bright students.” — Gov. Awiti.

The Governor however urged the beneficiaries to make use of the opportunity and strive to achieve success through education.Governor Awiti later made a strong appeal to county residents to observe covid-19 containment measures as given by the ministry of health “to contain this monster that has continually ravaged lives in this region.”

He said the county government procured and delivered 60 oxygen cylinders and an oxygen reservoir in response to the surge of covid-19 in the county.“We are working to install an oxygen manufacturing system at the county referral that will serve our 9 isolation centers across the eight sub counties.”
