From @Araap_Sang Nandi County Governor Stephen Sang

The National Police Service should verify the information received regarding the occurrences in Lessos, Nandi County, this afternoon. For the record, no arresting police officer was attacked neither were there any attempts to snatch a rifle by wananchi / Bodaboda operators as alleged.

This kind of misinformation received by Police Headquarters must be treated with the contempt as a one sided story by those officers trying to absolve one of their own. We ask the Police Service Commission and the Independent Police Oversight Authority to conduct thorough and independent investigations taking keen interests in the events of the entire afternoon leading to the loss of three lives to government guns and bullets.

The county has instructed a legal team to pursue justice on behalf of the families of the three victims of this unfortunate incident of extrajudicial killings. It is instructive to note that less than two years ago, another police officer from the same police station shot and killed an innocent young man under same circumstances. It iis unfortunate that the culprit officer was never prosecuted but merely transferred to another station.

Just a month ago, other two innocent lives were lost to government guns and bullets in Tabolwa, Mosop, and up to now nothing much has happened while the affected families are still waiting for justice. This level of police brutality and disregard of the rule of law is unacceptable. The Police Service Commission must put more effort in dealing with rogue officers who are giving the entire service such a bad and terrible reputation.
