Friday, 29th January, 2021 – Nairobi Deputy Governor and acting Governor Ann Kananu Mwenda today reiterated the need for Nairobi City County and Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) to continue fostering a long term working condition. She was speaking at a joint workshop retreat facilitated by the NMS to brief members of the County Assembly on the status of programs being implemented by NMS for the financial year 2020/2021 and implementation of ward development fund programs.

The event was also attended by Members of the Nairobi County Executive and the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) to consider the implementation of NMS programs for the financial year 2020/2021 and implementation of ward development fund programs.

Speaking during the function Ms Kananu said “it is refreshing and I am humbled to with the strong synergy that I am witnessing today. If we continue in this way, we will go very far. This is also the first time we are having such an engagement, and I am glad to see that we are forging this tri-partite partnership of the County Executive, County Assembly and NMS. For efficient deployment of our human resources, both at Nairobi County Government and NMS, there is need to relook at ways in which we can dovetail our roles, so that we have seamless operations. We will both work towards the mutual benefit of Nairobi city residents and therefore we will use this opportunity to continue advocating for the creation of a high level bilateral team to work together and advise on how NCCG and NMS can improve our working partnership, collaboration and cooperation.”

Following the transfer of four (4) functions; health; transport and public works, environment and water from the Nairobi County Government to the National Government with NMS being the implementing agency, the County Assembly pursuant to article 187 of the constitution and the addendum to the deed of transfer of function, retained its budget making and oversight mandate over the transferred functions.
