Kiraitu’s Borehole Water Our Big Transformation
Residents from dry parts of Meru cannot hide their joy over 150 impactful boreholes Governor Kiraitu sunk across the County. The borehole water has greatly influenced their economic growth, improved hygiene as well as boosted healthy lifestyles and nutrition. According to Monica Kangai, this comes as a big relief to women as the Governor had promised while he sought for gubernatorial seat. Kangai points out that earlier on, all her money went to buying water from vendors at at least ksh. 30 per 20 liter can, a resource that was hardly found.
Despite living with disabilities, Triphosa Muthoni, Antubetwe Kiongo resident, has ever since cultivated sukuma wiki, using Gatoolone borehole water, saying “this has with ease enabled me pay school fees for my child who is now in a boarding school.” Likewise, Peninah Mukami, a hairdresser, Mbuju village – Kisima Ward, points out “Mbuju borehole water has promoted my work since I have ample time, unlike before when I wasted more time and energy in quest for water.
Kajuju Katinura another beneficiary of Mutunyi borehole, is practising overhead irrigation. “My peas are doing well and I intend to plant onions from the portion I just harvested beans. I bought a goat right, courtesy of this water. Thank you to governor Kiraitu for his promise come true.“
