Kenya and Uganda Strive to Open Up Borders for Stronger Ties

Nairobi Kenya. History was made at the footsteps of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs-Kenya, headquarters when Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary Dr. Monica Juma and Uganda’s Foreign Minister, Hon. Sam Kutesa signed the agreed minutes of the ministerial segment of the first Joint Permanent Commission between the two countries.

Open borders, facilitate trade, share transnational resources, secure our territories and populations security, among others, are some of the commitments contained in the signed minutes. This will undoubtedly strengthen the relations between Kenya and Uganda. Elated officials joined the two Ministers at a press conference after the signing of the agreed minutes.  The report came from long nights of negotiations that run through to the wee hours of the mornings for two running days.

At the press conference, CS Juma and her counterpart elaborated the elements of the deal agreed upon.  This report will form the basis for the deliberations of the principals tomorrow at State House, Mombasa.
