County Receives Fully-Equipped Land Registry Equipment

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the European Union (EU) handed over the first fully equipped land registry in West Pokot to the Department of Lands and Physical Planning in Kapenguria.
Speaking during the hand-over ceremony, Governor Prof. John Lonyangapuo said that the county has achieved a milestone in achieving land reforms, pointing out that the equipment will further strengthen the county’s efforts. He further said digitization of land records will ensure easy access to land records and title deeds.

He added that the equipment will reduce the expenses incurred by citizens in accessing these critical services.
“Many of the county residents have had to come all the way to Kapenguria from far-flung areas. We hope digitization of land records will fast-track processes of issuing out title deeds to our people,” said the governor.
Cabinet Administrative Secretary for Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning Alex Mburu said the equipment will facilitate the registration of land for the benefit of the community.

“We have received registration equipment which to support the digitalisation platform in matters of land registration, from FAO and EU development partners,” he said.

Mburu said the equipment will enable ease of securing land tenure, particularly through registration and decentralisation of services.
The immediate milestones achieved for equipping the land registry include the completion of the community land registration process which has enabled the registry to produce the county’s first ever community title deeds for Chesra, Sobukwo, Nakwijit and Chemwochoi communities.

Present were EU Representative Titus Katembu, FAO Country Representative Ms. Carla Mucavi, Vice-Chair, National Lands Commission, Getrude Nguku, County Commissioner Apollo Okello, County Officials among other dignitaries.
