Pipe Laying Commences at on-going Karimenu II Dam Water Supply

Today, the CS Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Ms.Sicily Kariuki witnessed the commencement of the pipe laying works. This is the 7th major project milestone in construction of Karimenu II Dam Water Supply in Gatundu. It will entail laying of 67km of pipeline. The CS also inspected the construction of the 70 million litres water treatment plant, dam filling and spillway works.
The project is at 45% completion,entails construction of 59m high dam, water treatment plant of capacity 70 M ltrs per day, 67 km of raw and treated water transmission pipeline and two concrete water storage tanks in Ruiru and Juja each with a capacity of 23.5 M ltr and 3M ltrs. Currently, the project has achieved six key milestones including groundbreaking, tunnel breakthrough, completion of tunnel secondary lining, river diversion and substantial completion of dam foundation treatment works.
Today marked commencement of the pipe laying works which is another key milestone for the project. Land acquisition to facilitate construction works is ongoing by National Land Commission. The CS was accompanied by AWWDA CEO Eng. Michael M. Thuita.
