Prof. Madara Ogot holds a BSE in Mechanical Engineering from Princeton University, PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State University, MBA (Strategic Management) from Rutgers University and a PhD in Business Administration (Strategic Management) from the University of Nairobi.

Prof. Ogot has published widely in refereed journals and has mentored and supervised post-graduate students both in Mechanical Engineering (with a focus on stochastic design optimization, transportation and engineering education) and strategic management (with a focus on small and medium enterprises).

Ogot was a faculty member in the Departments of Mechanical Engineering at Rutgers University (1991-2003), the Pennsylvania State University (2003-2006), before returning to Kenya and joining the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Nairobi in 2006.

He has served as the Managing Director for University of Nairobi Enterprises and Services Ltd, (2006-2011), Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Affairs at Maseno University (2011-2014), Director of Research University of Nairobi (2016-2019), and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, Innovation and Enterprise, University of Nairobi (2018-2020).

Ogot has been active in the development of the Science, Technology and Innovation policy in Kenya including a member of the Taskforce for the alignment of the Higher Education, Science and Technology Sector bills to the new Constitution resulting in the Universities Act 2012, Technical, Industrial and Vocational Training Act, 2013, and the Science and Technology Act, 2013, the latter providing the legal framework for the establishment of the Kenya National Innovation Agency, the National Research Fund, and the National Commission for Science and Technology.

More recently he was the team leader on a project that developed the Policy on Research Training and Innovation in Kenya (2015) on behalf of the Commission for University Education, member of the team that developed the Ten year Master Plan for Science and Technology Parks in Kenya (2017), under the Global Policy Accelerator programme, member of the team developing the National Innovation Policy Framework (2020).

Teaching
