Description
This book discusses, through the lives of eminent Caribbeans, the historical relationship between Africa and the West Indian Islands. It was in the Caribbean where the Africans, the Europeans, and the Indians first tried to live together in one society. It was also in the Caribbean where where colonialism and capitalism in their modern forms started.
It was also in the Caribbean where the first colonial wars of independence were fought, many of them led by people of African descent. Finally, the people of the Caribbean were later to play an active role in the fight against racism and the consequent developments of black consciousness both in its political form as exemplified by Pan Africanism, or in its cultural movements.
For these reasons, which are explored in this book, the history of the Caribbean peoples is highly relevant to the history and aspirations of the African people.
