Waiguru Rubbishes People Daily Corruption Allegation
From @AnneWaiguru
My attention has been drawn to the People Daily headline and story alleging a “massive scam” in ICirinyaga County. While I have instructed my lawyers to commence action against the newspaper, I wish to express my disgust with the People Daily who are being used by my detractors to pursue a corruption narrative to achieve obvious political objectives and push circulation. The story in the People Daily is blatantly untrue and malicious to say the least! The entire amount paid on the Mwea-Makima project by my administration is Kshs 3.6 million, to the company that was awarded the works which is completely different from the one alleged by the People Daily. That information is easily and readily available and verifiable.
The allegation about my government paying 77 million shillings to some company is blatantly untrue and without any foundation. It is shameless and an abdication of basic journalistic ethics for the newspaper not to verify the basic facts before publishing and especially on the front page.
Irresponsible reporting and politicization of the corruption war is what fuels public skepticism on the matter. It is unfortunate when it is peddled by purportedly serious and responsible newspapers.
Shame on you People Daily!
