In this historic moment, every Kenyan has two choices to make; to sit and critisize from the sidelines or to rise and make their voices count by participating in the formation of the best version of constitution for our country — H.E. Anne Waiguru, Governor of Kirinyaga County. Twitter/@AnneWaiguru
I have today, as a Party Leader of Maendeleo Chap Chap and a proud Kenyan, made my submissions at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi during the National launch of the BBI report. I shared the need for the contentious issues in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report to be resolved before the proposed constitutional amendments can be subjected to a National referendum. We need to identify the issues that are of concern and build consensus, so that we can have a document which is acceptable to all. If not, we risk slipping back to what happened after the 2007 general election.
As Manendeleo Chap Chap Party, we are happy to support the process of BBI. We recognize that constitution-making is a process. It is about getting all of us together and improving what we have for the sake of our people. Kenyans are tired of living in a country of millions of poor people and a handful of millionaires, and I urge the youth to desist from being used by politicians to fan political violence.
I challenge our President, Uhuru Kenyatta and Hon. @RailaOdinga to steer this BBI process in an inclusive way so that all Kenyans feel involved and part of the process. As a leader, I look forward to a transparent engagement as we strive to produce a BBI document that addresses issues that directly affect wananchi and that reflect the will of the great people of Kenya. — Dr. Aflred Mutua, Governor Machakos County Twitter/@DrAflred Mutua
It’s now all systems go. The journey towards building a better Kenya is proceeding in earnest. I encourage all of you to read and acquaint yourselves with the BBI report. Let’s all come together as a people and find durable solutions to our challenges as a country. — Hon. Raila Odinga Twitter/@railaodinga
“The strength of the Senate needs to be reviewed again when it comes to matters devolution since the Senate is the anchor to devolution … To enhance the independence of the judiciary, I think the appointment of ombudsman should be done by the Chief Justice … The BBI Report document has very good provisions that needs to be enacted carefully. — Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, Party Leader Amani National Congress
The BBI framework gives us a moment to have a proper conversation that is centered on issues affecting the ordinary populace. We therefore have a civic duty to engage in the process by interrogating and making progressive proposals. We do not have the luxury of “I do not care” or walking away from this historic moment. — HE Dr. William Ruto, Deputy President of Kenya Twitter/@williamsruto
Joined other government officials and leaders at Bomas of Kenya during the launch of the BBI Report. Even as the robust national conversation begin, we must protect the gains made in the Constitution 2010. We also must ensure issues of devolving more resources down to the ward level, strengthening the Senate to an upper house, minimum guaranteed returns to our farmers, safeguarding the principle of independence of the various arms of government & other independent institutions.
Most of the proposals captured in the BBI Report just launched require no constitutional referendum. We therefore call for the immediate implementation of those proposals that require legislative, policy and administrative actions even as deeper consensus is built on those that require constitutional changes. We should all strive towards a non contested process. — HE Stephen Sang, Governor of Nandi County Twitter/@Araap_sang
Today’s launch of the BBI Report by H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Rt Hon. Raila Odinga marks a milestone in our quest to make our Constitution even more robust and responsive to the needs of our people. The BBI promises to even further, the gains brought about by the 2010 Constitution which ushered in Devolution. With a key proposal to raise allocation for counties to 35 percent, Kenyans have every reason to support BBI and see more resources taken to the grassroots. — HE Amason Kingi, Governor of Kilifi County
On this auspicious day, I wish to congratulate H.E the President Uhuru Kenyatta and Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga for taking a bold step in unifying our country through the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI). The two have shown exemplary leadership by rising above their personal ambitions and putting the country and Kenyans first.
Today marks the start of an important journey of unity ,equity, inclusivity and shared prosperity for us as a people and as a nation. I extend my hearty gratitude to the committee of eminent elders led by Senator Yusuf Haji for completing the herculean task of traversing the whole country, meeting & collecting views from Kenyans from all walks of life and compiling a document that will ensure a united Kenya. Lastly I urge you all, my brothers and sisters to read the document carefully and let’s all dialogue with civility and respect as we engage. — HE Hassan Joho, Governor of Mombasa County Twitter/@HassanAliJoho
