Safaricom Foundation hands over Waithaka Vocational Training Centre to Nairobi City County Government.

Waithaka Vocational Training Centre was today handed over to the Nairobi City County Government (NCCG) after completion of renovations by the Safaricom Foundation.
Nairobi City County partnered with Safaricom Foundation early last year to give the institution a facelift. Safaricom Foundation has spent 28M on refurbishment which has seen the institution acquire a new look and modern equipments such as welding Machines, desks and computers among others.
The Foundation has also offered a 2 year sponsorship program amounting to 6M to all students.
The County Ag.Chief Officer Education and Social Services,Ms. Ruth Owuor thanked Safaricom Foundation for refurbishing and equipping the Centre with modern equipments. She also conveyed her gratitude to the National government through the PS. State Department for Vocational & Technical Training Dr. Julius Jwan for the national capitation of 59million shillings to vocational training centres of which Waithaka VTC is a beneficiary.
Safaricom Foundation CEO promised to spend a total of 130M on Waithaka VTC to make it a center of excellence which will be used as a benchmark as they roll out more vocational centers all over the country.
Waithaka Vocational Training Centre offers technical courses such as ICT, Food and Beverages, Electrical Engineering, Welding, Painting, Hairdressing, Dress making and Plumbing.
The event was also attended by among others Member of Parliament Dagoretti South Hon. John Kiarie and Safaricom Foundation Trustee Steve Chege.
