Parliament Proceeds on a Recess Following Coronavirus Outbreak
Following the recent pandemic of COVID-19 also known as Coronavirus in the country, the Houses of Parliament altered their respective Calendars, so as to proceed to a recess. The action of the Houses plays a role in part of the Government’s efforts to contain the spread of the virus. As such, the Houses took a break as follows-
- The National Assembly proceeded on its recess from Wednesday, March 18, 2020 to resume on Tuesday, April 14, 2020; and
- The Senate adjourned its sittings from Wednesday, March 18, 2020 to Tuesday, April 14, 2020, but will also hold sittings on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 and Tuesday, April 7, 2020.
In the meantime, the Parliamentary Service Commission has instructed parliamentary staff to work from home, and restricted the numbers of officers on duty each day. However, provision of essential services is still ongoing.
