Over 400 Youths Graduate in ICT and Garment Making

Some 424 graduands were today awarded certificates during a graduation ceremony held at the Governor’s Headquarters grounds and graced by Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, SEKU University’s Professor Geoffrey Muluvi and Trendy College Prinicipal Josephine Mirango.  Speaking at the feting ceremony, the Governor said the program sponsored by the County Government is a milestone in the fulfilment of the promise she made to the people of Kitui.

She said her key focus is to make the residents producers in the country’s economy through training and value addition among other ways. “We have for many years been agents of mass importing of garment products. This trend must stop to create wealth in our home county” She said. She said KICOTEC will hire all the trained youths and seeks to increase job creation through bigger markets for uniforms thus improving the county’s economy.

Ngilu lauded SEKU University for the continued cooperation saying the county targets to train at least 1800 youths in ICT. “It’s is time to make SEKU University a centre of youth development and empowerment’ she said.On his part, SEKU Vice Chancellor Prof. Muluvi said ICT Training has the potential to transform government business, information flow and general success in all spheres of governance.

He said success in e-health and telemedicine depend hugely on use of proper ICT knowledge noting that developing countries are working to transform health services across the continent by improving efficiency in the sector.“Telemedicine has gone far beyond providing healthcare services alone. It is now being extensively used also for education, research and management of data” he said. He said use of ICT in health can be broadly used in areas of Education, Research, Referral, and Management of Data.
