Ministries Sign MOU On Youth Training

The State Department of Youth Affairs and the State of Shipping and Maritime have signed an MOU that will facilitate skills Development and Employment Creation for the Youth in the Maritime and Blue Economy Sector.

The Principal Secretary (PS) for Youth Affairs Mr. Julius Korir said the loans to be advanced to individual youths without interest will facilitate costs related to certification and training of beneficiaries to access employment in the cruise ships as seafarers.

Speaking after signing the MOU with his Shipping and Maritime counterpart, Nancy Karigithu at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) today, Mr. Korir said that the government is making strides in creating opportunities for the youth as a priority in implementation of the Big Four agenda.
Mr. Korir said, that the government was focused on unlocking opportunities for the youth to access employment, skills, entrepreneurship, and inclusivity adding the Ministry will partner with other organization to improve on welfare of the youth.

The PS He said that young people were important in the society, noting that there was need to strengthen policies that affect young people to empower them to participate actively in the economic production.

The Principal Secretary for Shipping and Maritime Mrs. Nancy Karigithu said Kenya aspires to be net expoerter of skilled workforce.

Mrs Karigithu said the seafarers sector had potential to create massive employment opportunities in the professional and non-technical services such as engineering and hospitality services. Among those who attended the function was the Chief Administrative Secretary for State department of Youth Affairs Ms. Nadia Ahmed Abdalla and her Shipping and Maritime counterpart Ms Wavinya Ndeti.
