The most fundamental pillar to growth of the cooperatives movement is financial management and transparency, Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago EGH, has said.

A number of cooperative societies that were revived by the County Government of Uasin Gishu had collapsed, majorly on grounds of lack of proper financial management and transparency.

And speaking during the Wareng Marketing Cooperative Annual General Meeting at the RCEA Conference, Mandago – a believer of the cooperatives movement -said coops thrive through contributions of cooperators.

For this reason, Mandago says, financial transparency should be encouraged through presentations of audited reports.

Mandago also rallied for enrollment into cooperative societies, saying coops provide ground for better bargain more so farmers’ cooperatives. Most savings cooperatives secure properties for their members on agreed terms.

The Governor underlined his government’s support for the cooperatives movement. The County Government of Uasin Gishu has heavily invested in the cooperatives sector.

Mandago’s administration is organizing the six sub-counties to form at least three coperatives venturing into value addition and processing.
