Lake Region Economic Bloc Holds 7th Summit

Today I chaired the 7th Lake Region Economic Bloc Summit that discussed COVID-19 containment measures and how to cushion our people from effects of the pandemic. We signed an MOU with 13 Universities from the region for collaboration in research and innovation.

We agreed to share medical facilities for Covid-19 patients especially oxygen, ICU and isolation facilities. Members expressed concern over delay in passing the Sugar Bill by the Parliament and agreed to engage both Speakers and leadership of the Houses to fast track the process.

We urge Agriculture Cabinet Secretary to ban importation of sugar and gazette the Sugar Regulation. We support Mumias Sugar Company revival plan and tell politicians to stop politicizing the matter.
