From Governor of Machakos Charity Ngilu via Twitter/@mamangilu
We are pleased to enter into an MOU between the USAID East Africa and County Government of Kitui. The MOU is themed Collaboration on development projects that support the promotion of inclusive and sustainable economic, social, and political development of Kitui county. The signing of this MOU seeks to transform our relationship from a benefactor-beneficiary one to a partnership where we will co-design, co-fund, co-implement, co-monitor our development programs.
he partnership will herald a new way of working where Kitui & USAID agree on the development priority areas and design intervention programs to achieve these priorities. We will prioritize programs around our five pillar manifesto that will transform the lives Kitui people.
Key among this will be programs that seek to create wealth for our people. For instance in trade we will seek to enhance the capacity of our industries (Kitui Foods, Kitui Leather and Kitui County Textile Centre-KICOTEC) to meet the international market standards. We will seek markets in the USA to support these industries, as well as attract investment from USA to Kitui especially in renewable energy, agricultural processing and mining.
n areas of social services we will prioritize programs in water and agriculture including:
- Solarization of Masinga and Kiambere intakes
- Solarization of water schemes especially boreholes
- Rain Water harvesting especially earth dams
- Post-harvest and value addition.
These among other programs will go a long way in ensuring that our people enjoy a prosperous and quality life.
