Kilifi County Prioritizes Revival of Cashew Nut Sector
From Governor of Kilifi Amos Kingi from Facebook/www.facebook.com/governoramason.kingi/
Revival of the Cashew Sector remains a key priority for my administration and Jumuiya za Kaunti za Pwani Preliminary results from the pilot program of the Jumuiya za Kaunti za Pwani program called Empowering Farmers Foundation (EFF) based at our Kilifi North sub county offices in Matsangoni is proof we can still reap big from the Cashew Sector.
The foundation engages local youth trained by Tanzanian agronomists to spray the local cashew trees against Powdery Mildew and Leaf and Nut Blight disease. The exercise is being conducted in all the five Matsangoni sub locations of Chumani, Roka, Mkongani, Matsangoni and Uyombo.
The program will be upscaled to assist farmers in Lamu, Kwale and Kilifi Counties. Governor Kingi urged every farmer to start tending to their cashew trees as the sector gears up for another major boost. Two cashew factories are being set up in the county. One’s Centum’s Vipingo Park Cashew Factory in Kilifi South while the other is TenSenses Kakanjuni plant in Kilifi North.
