The Judiciary and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have launched a joint review of the policies, procedures and practices of the Judiciary to identify loopholes that may be exploited to aid corruption. The initial phase will involve a review of Court Registries, Records Management, and the Department of Building Services before being extended to Financial and Supply Chain Management, Human Resource, ICT and Communication.
This project results from the Judiciary’s ‘Social Transformation through Access to Justice (STAJ)’ Vision to enhance public trust and confidence in the Judiciary. Giving effect to this goal demands that we be proactive, rather than reactive by taking preventive measures which include identifying avenues and opportunities for unethical and corrupt practices and work towards eliminating them.
We must adopt a system review of the Judiciary’s entire operational apparatus to tackle and eliminate avenues and loopholes that are prone to exploitation by those who may be tempted to engage in unethical and corrupt acts. The review is a symbol that the Judiciary and EACC are committed to enhance and redouble our efforts to combat corruption and give effect to the normative command in Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution.
