Governors Muta and Ngilu Check-in on their Makueni Counterpart
By Governor of Machakos Dr Alfred Mutua from Twiiter/@DrAlfredMutua
Joined by Kitui Governor Chairty Ngilu, today we paid a courtesy call to our Makueni counterpart Kivutha Kibwana, at his home in Wote town to check on him, as he has been unwell. Our visit also provided opportunity for us as leaders of the South Eastern Kenya Economic Bloc (SEKEB) to consult on the scheduled visit by president Uhuru Kenyatta to our region next week.
As the SEKEB leadership we warmly welcome the president to visit our region and in fact appeal to him to add an extra day so that he can enjoy the beauty and the splendor that Ukambani offers. We also thank the president for the projects that his government has initiated in the region such as the Kibwezi-Kitui road, Thwake dam project, Konza Tecnopolis, Yatta dam, the Mbooni KMTC construction among others.
We acknowledge however, that the region is lagging behind in many areas including water, roads, agriculture, healthcare and higher education that require support from national government to realise them. To this end, we are grateful that the president has appointed a team of his cabinet secretaries and national government technocrats to work with us so that we can identify NEW projects within the 2021/2022 national budget framework.
The inaugural meeting for the taskforce will be held on Thursday in Nairobi. We have constituted technical teams in our three county governments to identify areas in the national government budget where we can make realistic requests for new development projects. Our people have suffered for long and want development and politics that translate to benefits for the masses. As SEKEB leadership, we reaffirm our commitment to political unity ahead of 2022 that will ensure we form the next government with other like minded Kenyans.
