Global Foreign Ministers Meet on COVID 19 and the Threat to Global Economy

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amb. Raychelle Omamo participated at the Covid-19 Foreign Ministerial virtual meeting presided over by the US Secretary of State Blinken on the state of play on Covid 19 and the threat to global economy. The CS who spoke on Global Direction and Building the Capacity We Need: Creating platforms to sustain financing, regional collaboration, and political leadership, underscored the need of strengthening global leadership and coordination.
The CS said Kenya has made strides in ensuring that pandemic response is led at the highest political level, and is coordinated through a whole-of-government mechanism. She commended Africa’s Joint Continental response and Strategy for COVID 19 and said that the experience has proven the utility of regional, continental and global cooperation and coordination in addressing health challenges.
She emphasized that the state was the first line of defence during the pandemic, therefore there is need to focus on building the capacity and competence of states especially in the Horn of Africa Region.
