Former Taita-Taveta County CEC Arraigned in Court for Fake Degree Certificates

Alexander Mwangeka, former CEC Public Works, ICT & Energy Taita Taveta County was today arraigned before Mombasa Anti-corruption Court on charges of forging academic certificates, giving false information and causing the County recruiting committee to approve his appointment.
In 2013, Mwangeka falsely declared that he had a degree in Business Studies and Economics from Kenyatta University and that he was pursuing a Masters Degree in Corporate Management at KCA University. Mwangeka also forged an Advocate’s stamp to certify copies of his fake Bachelor of Commerce degree certificate and transcripts from the Caribbean University. He later submitted the fake credentials to the Commission for University Education for recognition.
In 2018, the High Court in Voi dismissed his application for anticipatory bail bringing an end to his attempts to evade justice. Today he pleaded not guilty and was released on bond of Kshs. 500,000 or cash bail of Kshs. 200,000. The case will be mentioned on 21st Sept. 2020.
