CS Kobia Re-affirms Ministry’s Commitment to Women, Peace and Security Agenda
From CS Public Service, Gender and Senior Citizen Affairs, Prof Margaret Kobia from Facebook/ www.facebook.com/pg/CSMargaretKobia/
We converged in Isiolo this afternoon to celebrate the 21st Anniversary of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women Peace and Security (WPS). Conflict affects women differently so there’s a need to allow the participation of women in peace matters. Adopted in October 2000, it is a resolution that remains relevant and a reality in the lives of women and girls in all their diversity.
The anniversary comes at a time, when Kenya is chairing the presidency at the National Security Council at the global level. Kenya has always enjoyed political support on issues of gender equality and women empowerment and will therefore use this opportunity to ensure that greater attention is paid to the women, peace and security.
Involving women in peace and security will ensure that they are in a position to contribute to the promotion of peaceful responses through continuous early warning and conflict prevention as defined in the various instruments and standards of the women, peace and security agendas.
To accelerate the implementation of the Women, Peace, and Security agenda and achieve its ambitious goals, it is necessary to recognize and support the work of the women peacebuilders especially at the grassroots. This network will be an ideal platform to showcase innovativeness and the different contexts women are using across the county in advancing peace.
I re-affirm my Ministry’s commitment in providing leadership to the Women, Peace and Security agenda as contained in the 2nd National Action Plan (KNAP II).
Later on, I issued Women Enterprise Fund cheques worth KES. 4,800,000 to 16 women groups.
