This morning, [CS Balala] took part in a Lion Collaring exercise in Maasai Mara National Reserve. Lions are a critical part of the Mara ecosystem. Collars help in alerting us to potential human-lion conflict, and also monitor movements of the pride.
The information collected by the lion collars is in real time and transmitted to the park management to guide the team, whenever collared individuals are observed to be headed to areas inhabited by people, in the reserve. Scientists and Veterinarians also took blood, tissue and hair samples for further analysis to generate more information about the lion’s genes, history, age and measurements.
