Government Launches Fight on Illicit Brews Linked to Campaigns

The government has declared a nationwide crackdown against illicit alcohol and other substances in the build-up to the general election. Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i said the intensified campaign that will run for an initial 30 days will target the proliferation of cheap and illegal liquor whose supply and consumption tends to rise sharply towards the general elections.

Governor Josphat Nanok has drummed support for new party UDA promising that the William Ruto-led party will empower local communities and contribute to develop Turkana. Speaking in Kanrudio, Kaeris yesterday, during a cultural event, the Governor said he was leading other Turkana leaders to mobilise support for UDA and working towards a William Ruto presidency to ensure that the region was part of the next government.
