Githurai All-Stars Triumph in Thrilling Finale: Sakaja Cup 2023 Crowns Champions in Nairobi’s Historic Football Initiative

Githurai All-Stars, from Githurai 45 in Roysambu Sub-County, emerged victorious in the inaugural Sakaja Cup 2023. They claimed a thrilling 6-5 win against Kawasaki FC of Landi Mawe, Starehe Sub-County, and were rewarded with a Kshs 3 million cash prize.
A total of 300 men’s and 34 ladies’ teams participated in the tournament, with 20 men’s and 2 ladies’ teams representing each Sub-County.
The Sakaja Super Cup, an initiative by His Excellency Governor Sakaja A. Johnson, is the first of its kind in Nairobi. It aims to nurture talent, foster hope, maintain order, promote dignity, and offer opportunities for all, ultimately diverting youth away from crime and drug abuse.
In second position was Kawasaki FC, who won Kshs 2 million, while Victor Faith FC bagged Kshs 1 million for their third-place finish. In the ladies’ category, Club Jojo, Kibagane, and Mchezo Halisi claimed Kshs 1 million, Kshs 500,000, and Kshs 250,000, respectively, for first, Second and third positions. The event was attended by Members of Parliament Hon. Esther Passaris (Nairobi Women Rep), Hon. Otiende Amollo (Rarieda), Hon. Mejja Donk (Embakasi Central), Hon. George Aladwa (Makadara), Hon. Beatrice Elachi (Dagoreti North), Mr. Nick Mwendwa (FKF president), Members of the County Assembly led by the Speaker Hon Ken Ngondi, County Executive Members, County Chief Officers, Directors, and fans from across Nairobi.
