Acting Nairobi Governor Ann Kananu has asked county staff to double their efforts in ensuring that Nairobi residents get better quality services.

The city boss was speaking after chairing a cabinet meeting where all chief officers and directors attended.

Kananu also signed the 2021/2022 performance contracts.

She said laziness and corruption will not be condoned.

“I want all county staff to focus on serving Nairobians. We have a great task and we should put our people at heart before anything else. I will not condone corruption and laziness,” she said.

Performance contracting is an important performance management tool for the public sector that ensures each implementation unit has clear and concise targets to achieve in a given financial year and ensures that the public sector delivers to the people as well as proper accountability mechanisms within the implementing units.

In 2009, the county emerged number one in the annual evaluated performance contract which had demonstrated improved service delivery and customer satisfaction index increase.

Kananu asked all county staff, more so executive members, to go to the ground and ensure all projects are done to the satisfaction of locals.

“At the end of this financial year, you will be gauged on how effectively you have been able to deliver on your commitments and intent as outlined in the performance contract. I want you on the ground and listen to our people’s demands,” she noted.

With the signed performance contracts, the county will then be able to determine whether it has delivered to Nairobians what they expected.

Acting county secretary Jairus Musumba also urged county staff to work round the clock in ensuring services are delivered to the locals.

“My door is very open and I am very reachable. Let’s make work easy for the Governor. If anyone needs any guidance we are here and ready,” Musumba said.
