Nairobi Governor Lauds the Continued Partnership Between Nairobi City County and the Nairobi Metropolitan Services

Nairobi City County Deputy Governor and acting Governor, H.E Ann Kananu has lauded the continued partnership between Nairobi City County and the Nairobi Metropolitan Services in a speech read on her behalf by acting Nairobi County Secretary, Dr Jairus Musumba.

In her remarks which was read by the acting County Secretary Dr. Jairus Musumba, H.E  Kananu assured the County Management Committee(CMC) members of her administration’s support saying  that the County Government and NMS were committed to support the team in their endeavors to deliver projects in all the 85 Wards in Nairobi County.

Said Ms. Kananu, “This induction  workshop is very critical to understanding your mandate and also a very good forum for all of us to engage and identify workable solutions and strategies to discharge our mandates. I am glad to see the cooperation and solidarity of the two entities which is even evident in this very room  and am very glad to note that our continued joint work and effort will bear fruit and bring transformative change to Nairobi City County. We call on you to harness your experience and knowledge in order to streamline the implementation of projects in our great city of Nairobi.”

Nairobi Metropolitan Services Director (NMS) General Major Mohammed Badi, who was the Chief Guest at the event called for speedy completion of projects in all the 85 wards in Nairobi City County by end of December 2021 inorder to give way for new projects come 2022.

Major General Badi was speaking at the end of the five day Ward Development Fund – County Management Committee ( WDF-CMC) induction and capacity building workshop in Mombasa.

The NMS Director General Major called on the newly appointed CMC members to ensure thorough evaluation of all appointed  contractors so that the development projects are given only to the serious contractors who will deliver to Nairobians. The DG also directed that all people doing projects must be completed in the next  six (6)months.

“Procurement laws should be followed to the latter as these projects are community based projects and will emanate from the  area Members of County Assembly and area residents who will identified their priority  projects depending on their needs.”

The Director General added  that the  projects  should be impactful and life changing. He gave examples of boreholes, toilets and roads.

The Director General  said that the county has set aside a budget for these projects adding that the County together with NMS will ensure completion of the projects to make the people of Nairobi proud. He also added that payment process of Kshs 1.3 billion  pending bills below 10M to the contractor is underway.

Acting Nairobi County Ag.  Secretary Dr. Jairus Musumba said that the projects will kick off immediately after the induction.

Nairobi County Chief Finance Officer Mr Halkano Waqo assured contractors that projects will be paid on a timely manner upon completion of projects.

Later in the day Major General Mohammed Badi accompanied by Nairobi County Secretary Dr. Jairus Musumba attended  a validation workshop for members of Nairobi County Assembly Health Sectoral Committee and the Nairobi county / NMS executive on Nairobi Food Safety and Fortification Bill.
