Unveiling the Construction of Njuri Ncheke Cultural Center at the Nchiru Shrine
Among the promises that Governor Kiraitu Murungi gave during the Campaigns was to promote Kimeru Culture, traditions, songs and dances. Today,the Governor has presided over the ground braking for the construction of ultra modern Njuri Ncheke Cultural Center at Nchiru Shrine. The center which is to be constructed through a partnership between Meru County and Tharaka Nithi Governments, and the National Government through the National Museums of Kenya, will host a state of the art amphitheatre, a music recording studio and an auditorium with a seating capacity of 600 people.
Speaking during the event, Governor Kiraitu noted that once the center is complete, plans are underway to construct another Cultural Center in Tharaka Nithi County at Igaironi and a monument in Chogoria, to honor the first most high achiever in Njuri Ncheke, late Hon. Benard Mate who served as the legislator for Meru and larger Central Kenya in colonial Legico, since 1956.

Mzalendo Kibunjia the Director General of the National Museums of Kenya, promised that the institution will continue to work closely with the county government to ensure that the project is completed within the set timeline. Meru Senator Hon. Mithika Linturi and Tharaka Nithi Deputy Governor Hon Nyamu kagwima lauded the move saying that the center will be great achievement to Njuri Ncheke and the entire community.
