Anti-Corruption Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi has barred Governor Obado from accessing his office and indicated that he would be escorted to the Migori County Government Offices to pick his personal belongings. This has been done to preserve the integrity of the trial process. All the accused were also required to surrender their passports to the Court. They were also cautioned not to interfere or contact the witnesses in this matter.

The 11-accused persons are facing charges of gross misappropriation of public funds after EACC established that upon payment from County Government accounts, various companies transferred a total of Shs. 73,474,376.90 to the Governor and his four children as kickbacks. The monies were spent on tuition fees for his children, 2 high end vehicles and a residential property in Loresho Ridge Nairobi. Charges they all denied. The matter is scheduled for a mention for pre-trial on 21st September 2020.

Governor Okoth Obado and his co-accused have been released on a total Shs 45m cash bail. The Governor, who was charged alongside his 4 children in the Shs. 73m scandal at Migori County, was released on a Shs. 8.7m cash bail or alternative Shs. 20m bond.
