Amani Council Holds its Inaugural Meeting

Today the 14th of August 2020 ANC party held its first and inaugural meeting of the Amani Council which is the new organ with authority to run all the political affairs of the party under the new ANC Constitution. This is shift from the previous constitution where the National Executive Council was the centre of political activities in the party.
H.E. Musalia Mudavadi has officially been sworn in as the ANC Party Leader under the party’s new constitution. He will serve for a period of 5 years as the party leader of ANC as from the date of the commencement of the new constitution. Under the new constitution the Party Leader becomes the automatic chair of the National Delegates Congress (NDC) & also the Chair of the Amani Council (AC) The Amani Council becomes the 2nd most powerful party organ after the National Delegates Council under the new structures.

The Amani Council’s key role will be to promote, monitor and keep under constant review the implementation of the policies and programmes of ANC and ensure the proper functioning and development of ANC in accordance with the party’s constitution.
The Amani Council will also be mandated to consider, review and if satisfied, ratify the ANC Manifesto. The Amani Council will also consider reviewing and if satisfied approve the ANC party’s budget. The Amani Council will be the body tasked with electing the Secretary General of the party from a list of two persons nominated by the party leader for the election.
The Amani Council will also consider, review and if satisfied, approve the Organizational structure of the National Executive Board (NEB) as proposed by the Secretary General; consider, review and if satisfied, ratify the list of party candidates for General Elections and of nominees to the party list and terms of any mergers, coalitions and or cooperations with other political parties; establishment of party branches and ratify establishment of party branches and of sub-branches.
The Amani Council shall exercise any power conferred upon by the National Delegates Congress (NDC) and the decision of the council shall take effect immediately. The Council will be tasked with making policy decisions for the efficient and harmonious functioning and development of the party.
The Party Leader, Musalia Mudavadi, has emphasised that ANC now becomes a grass-root based political party with a nationwide outlook under the new constitution. The polling centre committees become one of the most basic and powerful entities in ANC’s hierarchy.
