Traders at Mawanga Market in Kiamaina Ward, Bahati Sub County have a reason to smile following the construction of new market sheds. The market has been handed over to the traders after completion of the project undertaken by the County Government. It is part of H.E Governor Lee Kinyanjui’s efforts to ensure that traders across the County operate in a conducive environment.
Bahati Sub County administrator, Samuel Macharia said hundreds of traders drawn from the area are set to benefit from the market. “We are here to hand over this project by the County Government of Nakuru for use in changing the lives of the people of this area,” said the Sub County administrator.
The project entailed the construction of new market sheds, laying of concrete floor, renovation of toilets, and the erection of water tanks. Area MCA Isaac Wahome, thanked the Governor for championing for the plight of the traders at the market by ensuring that all their needs were addressed during the commencement of the project.
Wahome thanked the County Government for ensuring that the contractors prioritized local youth and women during employment. Traders were assured of transparency in the allocation of the spaces and urged to report incidences of favoritism and/or bribery during the process of allocation. The project is in line with the manifesto of the Governor to construct modern markets stalls at designated areas. Also present were County trade officer Kamau Okemwa.
