Siaya Health Department Receives More Personal Protective Equipment

The county government of Siaya yesterday received a Sh 2.5 million Personal Protective Equipment (PPE’s ) consignment from the Catholic Medical Mission Board (CMMB).
The donations meant to equip community health volunteers, health workers and county residents include 976 litres of liquid hand washing soaps, 11,850 surgical masks, 340 boxes of gloves, 350 litres of sodium hydroxide and 60 overalls.
“We have been in partnership with the county government on health related issues and today we have handed over these equipment to help the CHW’s dealing with among others, HIV patients and vulnerable groups at the grassroots,” said County CCM Program Manager Hilary Ngeso who handed over the donations to county officials led by County Health Executive Dorothy Owino.
Mr. Ngeso further recognized the role of the Catholic Medical Mission Board who have additionally been supporting the emergency response committee mobility programs through fuelling of vehicles including those transporting samples of victims to Kemri/CDC in Kisumu for further analysis. CMMB has also initiated plans to support the County and sub-County health teams communication needs by providing them with airtime for three months.
The County Health Executive Dorothy Owino who was accompanied by Emergency Response distribution chair Oloo Okanda and Health Director Ken Orwenjo lauded the CMMB for supplementing government’s efforts to mitigate the spread of coronavirus.
“We thank you for supporting us. Your contribution will help address areas where we are experiencing shortages,” said Ms. Owino adding that the focus of the county administration is to give priority to surveillance and CHW programmes.
