51.6 M Issued To Farmers to Go Towards Climate SMART Agriculture

Farmers in Kisumu County today received cheques worth 51.6 Million Kenya shillings during the launch of a project dubbed Kenya Climate Smart Agriculture Project (KCSAP), co-funded by the World Bank and the County Government of Kisumu.

Kisumu is one of twenty four counties that have benefited from support from the World Bank for this project.

The project aims at increasing agricultural productivity and building resilience to climate change risks in targeted small holder farming.

The five years project is set to upscale climate smart agricultural practices, strengthen and support research and innovation and aid in building competitive and sustainable seed systems in the region.

This is inline with the Governor’s manifesto on transforming agriculture from a low income, low efficiency and a sector whose uptake of technology is low to a vibrant and modern sector that supports value addition through scientific and technological innovations.

Kisumu county has a robust extension services unit and farmers have been accessing credit thus boosting output and the farmers’ knowledge and skills.

The issuance was presided over by the Deputy Governor of Kisumu County together with the County Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Mr. Gilchrist  Okuom.
