Description

Simbi Nyaima creatively retells  a well known Luo narrative that explains the features in Lake Simbi which suggest that a part of it was once dry land inhabited.  The story is that of a sprawling village that sat next to the original, much smaller lake.

The drowning was judgement for the villages arrogant refusal to shelter an elderly woman from a different village who had been caught out at night. Ogot breathes life into the myth by weaving into the traditional moral tale that cautions against inhumane insensitivity. It is a compelling story of high political drama, complete with unbridled ambition, heroic action, and dastardly betrayal complicated by inter-generational conflict.
