This book discusses the political and cultural history of the Jii-speaking peoples (Western Nilotes) who today number about 20 million, from about 1,000 BC to the signing of the peace-treaty between Dr John Garang, leader of the SPLM/A and the Sudanese Government on June 5, 2004 in Nairobi.
Today they are found in Southern Sudan, parts of Ethiopia and Eastern Congo, much of Northern and Eastern Uganda and most of Western Kenya and North-Eastern Tanzania – a real diaspora. In most of these aeras, the Jii-speakers provided the kind of political leadership that was needed to maintain peaceful and stable multi-cultural and multi-ethnic societies – without coercion.
